At first I was a little hesitant, I mean reading about a new online magazine for "hip, urban parents" in the Times Style Section can turn you off, even though you used to be an urban parent before succumbing (happily I might add) to suburbia. However, upon further reading it did seem like something I might be interested in and at least it seemed different. Intelligent parents with a witty take on childrearing and the hope that maybe it would be less irritating than the really earnest websites with moms from Indiana who never have anything negative to say about the very difficult work of being a parent.
I was right...and wrong. The whole marketing to the cooler-than-you Soho family is a tad annoying but in general BABBLE has articles written by real parents who I could actually be friends with. They don't just discuss the beautiful moments, but instead talk about the embarrassments, the feelings of inadequacy, the physical pain of being a new parent...all with humor and warmth and the real feeling that these people love their children, but they are not blind to the fact that it's damn hard to do this without everyday bringing a new disaster along with moments of complete joy.
So for all you parents and soon to be parents or even people who think they might one day be parents, I urge you to read BABBLE and belly laugh like I did over the honesty of the writers and the absolute hysterics of having a baby.
